A stolen Jeep Rubicon, valued at $52,000, was recovered in record time thanks to the advanced GPS tracking system built into the vehicle and seamless coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies.

The incident began when the vehicle was discovered missing from the victim’s driveway in Downey, CA, early on June 8. The owner immediately contacted the Downey Police Department, who filed a theft report and entered the vehicle’s information into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) database.

In addition to reporting the theft to police, the owner contacted LoJack’s 24-hour Stolen Vehicle Recovery Hotline. LoJack activated the vehicle’s GPS system, and the information was quickly entered into the LoJack LE system—a real-time tracking platform designed exclusively for law enforcement.

Detectives from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and the Calexico Police Department quickly mobilized. LoJack LE provided the real-time location of the stolen Jeep as it moved toward the U.S.–Mexico border. Officers tracked the vehicle as it approached the Calexico border crossing plaza, traveling in tandem with another Jeep.

Thanks to swift action and real-time tracking, both vehicles were intercepted by Calexico PD officers before they could exit the country. The stolen Jeep was confirmed and recovered on-site, and multiple suspects were detained without incident.

The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner within hours of the theft, showcasing the power of LoJack’s GPS tracking system and the importance of strong interagency cooperation.

The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement works to identify those responsible for the attempted export of the stolen vehicle.
