Surprise, AZ — A stolen 2021 Kia Sorento was safely recovered after traveling more than 300 miles across state lines, thanks to real-time LoJack® GPS tracking technology and coordinated law enforcement response between Arizona and New Mexico agencies.
The owner of the Kia Sorento, valued between $22,000 and $26,000, reported the vehicle stolen to the Surprise Police Department and the LoJack Call Center. Officers immediately entered the vehicle into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), while the LoJack team activated the vehicle within the LoJack Law Enforcement (LE) App, providing officers with real-time stolen vehicle tracking capabilities.
Tracking data showed the stolen Kia traveling deep into rural New Mexico, eventually leaving the paved highway near Pie Town. Using precise LoJack GPS coordinates, deputies with the Catron County Sheriff’s Office navigated dirt roads in darkness to locate the vehicle concealed in a remote pasture — a location that would have been extremely difficult to identify through traditional patrol efforts alone.
Deputies conducted a safe and tactically controlled approach, confirming the vehicle was occupied by two juveniles. Both individuals were taken into custody without incident, and the stolen Kia Sorento was safely recovered, secured, and towed from the scene. The vehicle owner was later notified and provided instructions for retrieval.
“This case highlights the importance of rapid reporting, cross-jurisdiction coordination, and real-time GPS vehicle tracking technology,” said a spokesperson familiar with the recovery. “Because the vehicle was equipped with LoJack, deputies were able to locate it quickly in a remote area while minimizing search time and operational risk.”
As vehicle thefts increasingly involve interstate movement and remote concealment, law enforcement agencies continue to rely on connected stolen vehicle recovery technology to improve recovery outcomes and officer safety. LoJack’s exact-coordinate tracking capabilities helped deputies pinpoint the vehicle far from normal roadways, significantly reducing the time and resources required to locate it.
Without LoJack technology, the stolen Kia may have remained hidden in a remote location or continued moving undetected across jurisdictions. Instead, coordinated police response and real-time tracking led to a safe recovery and successful suspect apprehension.
For dealerships and vehicle owners alike, this recovery reinforces the value of equipping vehicles with LoJack as a proven stolen vehicle recovery solution that helps protect assets, support law enforcement, and improve recovery success rates.About LoJack
